Doctor of Audiology
The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program is designed to prepare graduate students to become skilled and experienced professionals in the areas of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology. The Au.D. program provides opportunities for graduate students to build on knowledge, leadership skills, problem solving strategies, and professional and ethical issues in audiology.
The Au.D. program is a post-bachelors, residential program that requires a minimum of 119 semester hours over a period of four years. Three stages of clinical experience have been designed to be completed during the first three years of the program. During year 1, students complete clinical laboratory coursework. During year 2, students complete in-house clinical experiences. During year 3, students complete off-campus clinical clerkships. Each stage of clinical experience must be completed successfully before a student will be permitted into the next stage of clinic. The fourth year of study is devoted to full-time clinical externship and the completion of a professional research project.
The program draws on the rich and diverse clinical opportunities in the Tampa Bay area. Au.D. students will have opportunities to gain clinical experiences within the University’s Communication Disorders Center, as well as clinical sites outside of the university. Off Campus sites include veterans affair's hospitals, children's hospitals, speech and hearing clinics, and rehabilitation clinics. Towards the completion of the program, students will be placed in a full time internship for 9 months.
Students will have a chance to gain outstanding interdisciplinary education experiences through the College of Medicine, Public Health, Business, and Arts and Sciences. The program will also provide creative opportunities for clinical research.
Graduates of the Au.D. program will be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) administered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and for Florida state licensure in Audiology.
A student with a master’s degree, State License in Audiology or the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) may be admitted into an individualized program of study.
Current students can access the Audiology student handbook on CSD's Blackboard site under Organizations. Contact Dr. Lister with any questions.
