How to Apply : Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology

The deadline for submission of application materials for the Speech-Language Pathology program is February 1st.

Students holding a Baccalaureate Degree must apply directly to the University of South Florida Graduate School Admissions Office using the FACTS Online Graduate Application.

In addition to the online application, the applicant must submit:

  1. Official transcripts for all coursework completed to date.
  2. Official GRE scores from Educational Testing Service (Institution code: 5828, Department Code: 0620).

Admission criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. This coursework should be in the basic speech, language, and hearing sciences. No practicum experience is required. The admissions committee will review your transcript to insure all pre-requisite coursework has been completed. Our program does request that you complete a course in Neuroanatomy prior to entry in the graduate program. This course may be completed at USF during the summer prior to Fall admission or it can be added to the Fall course load. Completion of this course is required for ASHA certification, but it will not count towards the masters degree requirements.

  • If you come from a non-CSD background. You are required to take pre-requisite coursework in the basic speech, language, and hearing sciences. These courses typically include Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing mechanism, Phonetics, Hearing Science, Speech Science, Intro to Language Development, Hearing Disorders, and Neuroanatomy. This coursework is completed in the year prior to graduate program admission. In order to apply for the graduate program, the applicant must demonstrate that he or she will completed this coursework prior to admission to the graduate program in the Fall. An Online Course Sequence is available for post-baccalaureate students seeking to apply to the speech-language pathology program who have yet to complete the required pre-requisites.

  • GPA of 3.2 or above for the last 60 hours of coursework completed.

  • Minimum GRE scores as follows: 52nd percentile (about 460) on the verbal portion, or the 52nd percentile (about 4) on the writing section AND the 32nd percentile (about 470) on the quantitative section, taken within 5 years preceding application.

Transferring from Another Program

Students seeking to change their graduate program must reapply for admission to another program within the Department or University. Students may not transfer from one program to another without the completion of internal program transfer forms and approval by appropriate admissions committees.
