How to Apply : Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders
The deadline for submission of application materials for the Ph.D. program is December 1st.
Students holding a Masters Degree must apply directly to the University of South Florida Graduate School Admissions Office using the FACTS Online Graduate Application.
In addition to the online application, the applicant must submit:
- Official transcripts for all coursework completed to date.
- Official GRE scores from Educational Testing Service (Institution code: 5828, Department Code: 0602).
- A letter of intent. (view details)

- A resume that summarizes your academic and work history (optional).
**** IMPORTANT ****
The transcripts and GRE forms should be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office. The USF Graduate Admissions office cannot receive electronic transcripts. The mailing address for that office is:

Admission criteria

Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or a related field (e.g. Linguistics, Psychology, Education).
- If you come from a non-CSD background, you may be required to take pre-requisite coursework in the basic speech, language, and hearing sciences depending on your career plans and desired area of focus.
- GPA of 3.0 or above from previous graduate study.
- GRE scores at the 33rd percentile for Verbal, Quantitative and Writing subtests, taken within 5 years preceding the application.
- Students with lower scores may be offered admission on a conditional basis if the letter of intent and letters of recommendation are particularly strong.
- The GRE requirement may be waived for students with demonstrated research experience (e.g. previous publications).
Transferring from Another Program
Students seeking to change their graduate program must reapply for admission to another program within the Department or University. Students may not transfer from one program to another without the completion of internal program transfer forms and approval by appropriate admissions committees.

These positions cover most of a student’s tuition, and include a stipend of $13.15 per hour.
- Graduate assistants are usually assigned to work for 20 hours per week.
- Students may be assigned to a faculty member and assist that faculty member with classes/research.
- Individuals who apply to the Ph.D. program by December 1st will automatically be considered for a graduate assistantship upon admission.
- Assistantships are typically given to students with strong files.
